If you’re not a fan of RIM’s products but at the same time you’re wondering what phone is worth to buy, than I hope you will find this useful. Looking on eBay at the prices of these phones, I see that they are pretty much the same so the only thing that’s left to look at is the differences between them.

I have to say that in most reviews you look on the internet, people are saying that the iPhone 3G doesn’t fit so well in your hand, probably because it has a 3.5” display while the BlackBerry Storm2 has a 3.25” display and it feels a lot better because of its shape. Well, it might not fit so well in your hand but it weights only 133 grams while the BlackBerry Storm2 weights 160 grams which makes quite a big difference between them.

Even that the BlackBerry Storm2 has a smaller display, it has 360×480 pixels while the iPhone 3G has 320×480 pixels so here is another plus for the BlackBerry Storm2.

You probably already know that the BlackBerry Storm2 9550 has 2GB of internal memory while the iPhone 3G has 8GB or 16GB of internal memory but the BlackBerry Storm2 9550 also comes with a microSD slot while the iPhone 3G doesn’t have such a thing.

I want to say that both phones have Wi-Fi and 3G connections but comparing the speed they load web pages, the iPhone 3G wins. When you browse a web page with the BlackBerry Storm2 9550, it gets lag.

If you usually use your phone for taking photos, the iPhone 3G is not what you want at all having a 2MP camera with 1600×1200 pixels while the BlackBerry Storm2 9550 comes with a 3.15MP camera and with 2048×1536 pixels. The BlackBerry Storm2 9550 also got autofocus and a LED flash so it takes much better photos.

You should also know that the BlackBerry Storm2 9550’s battery will drain out after 270 hours in stand-by or 5 hours and 30 minutes in talk time while the iPhone 3G’s battery drains out in stand-by mode after 300 hours and in talk time, after 10 hours so here is a big plus for the iPhone 3G.

After seeing all of these things, I’d say that I would buy the iPhone 3G because I just got used to the iPhone OS but this is not enough for me. For a little more money, I could buy the iPhone 3GS which is a better choice but it depends what things you want to do with such a smartphone. I must also mention that the iPhone 3G will not be built anymore because Apple will launch the iPhone 4 on 24th this month.

One of the things I most use my device for is to check sports events and results, not Formula 1 since I am not a big fan, but other sports. Anyway, I thought that this app would be very useful for someone who owns a Blackberry and follows the Formula 1 season which started some days ago. This is probably the best way to keep track of the races and rankings while you are on the go. Some of the feature that the Formula 1 ”app” has for the Blackberry Storm2 and Storm are:

Shazam is a really cool app, it will tell you exactly everything about the song you are currently listening to, and it will even show you a YouTube video of the song! But that is not all, you can tweet your discovery, or you could buy the song over the air with 7Digital.

You might say that this app is one of those ”theoretical” apps that don’t really work in the real life. Well, Shazam is not like that. Shazam was able to recognize even the most unknown songs you could imagine, it has a really high rate of accuracy. Shazam is not free, well, not really. Today I directed my browser to blackberry.com and found a new feature that Blackberry is offering to Blackberry users. It is a ”Facebook Wallpaper Generator for your Blackberry Smartphone.” It is a really cool Facebook app that lets you create wallpapers for your specific Blackberry device. The whole new service runs on Facebook. With this Facebook app, you can select pics you have on your Facebook account and the modify them. The Wallaper Faceook app has different tools you can use to create the perfect wallpaper for your Blackberry. After you finished modifying your pics you can get them and put them on your Blackberry, the col part is that when you put the wallpaper on your Storm it will look just like you created it, the Blackberry Wallpaper creator makes sure it will fit properly.

I really like the Sirius XM Satellite radio, is the best way to listen to something on the car, and now on your device! There are some times when your Music Library is just not enough to keep you entertained, I know there is Pandora, but Sirius XM radio is probably a better choice! Sirius XM just released the official XM App for the Blackberry Storm. It allows you to listen to all of the Sirius XM radio stations on your Blackberry Storm. The app is free itself, but Sirius XM will require a subscription of course. There is a period of trial, so you can go ahead, download XM and try it out for a while.

The XM app is really amazing. It is beautiful, the app is really well designed, it has its own menu (I couldn’t take a screenshot because of this) and has lots of options. And thanks to the powerful processor of the BB Storm, you can minimize the app, hear the music on the back and work in other things. A couple of weeks ago while on vacation, I got to an unknown city (Austin, TX). I was looking into having dinner in a nice restaurant, but since I didn’t know any, I had no clue where to go! I opened Google Maps and started searching restaurants, I eventually found one, but Google Maps is not the best app to find a great restaurant. I then got home and searched what app could help in this situations, and I found a great one! Urbanspoon specializes in mobile apps that allow to find any type of restaurant. It automatically gets your locations and shows you nearby restaurants. Is a brilliant app. You have 3 criteria, city, type and price. So for example, if you want a real fancy and expensive restaurant, you lock the high price and shake the phone. Urbanspoon will show you expensive restaurants nearby, if you want really cheap, just select prize and shake the Storm, Urbanspoon will show you really cheap restaurants in the area. You can also choose type, nationality, coffee, donuts, deserts, steak, seafood etc…

My favorite Twitter client for the Blackberry Storm2 is definitively UberTwitter. It is a great Twitter client with lots of features, good design, user friendliness and reliability. I still hate about UberTwitter that it changes your location on the Twitter.com site for your exact coordinates when you use it, however, I still like it and use it everyday to stay updated. You probably know that UberTwitter was updated to Beta6 some days ago, that, was a pre-release version. The official Beta 6 is no available and brings lots of improvements. Paypal is a really easy way to manage money online, is safe and easy to use. I frequently checked my Paypal account on my device via the web browser, now, there is an app for that! Blackberry just got the Paypal application, it is compatible with the Storm and Storm2. The app is really complete, easy to use and practical. You can send money, receive money, check your balance convert currency and more! My favorite feature of this application is that I can browse through my contacts, and the just click ”Send Money” and Paypal does it all! Is really convenient to use.

I become a freak when someone sends me -or I buy something- that has to be delivered with UPS. I have the tracking code saved on a note on my device and check every 15 minutes the status of the delivery! I just get so excited when I buy something cool that the time that thing takes to reach my door seems like a year, that is why I keep checking the status 24/7.

I just discovered an app that really helps me with all shipping-related situations. Is the UPS App for Blackberry devices! Is a really useful app. It allows you to track shipments, allows you to create shipments, allows you to find UPS locations and calculate quotes. Is like a dream for me, I could only do half of this things on my Blackberry before this app, and I had to use the  Web Browser which is not as convenient as this cool app! Today I had to do a hard reset on my Blackberry Storm2 from Verizon. I pulled the battery and restarted my phone. To my surprise, when the Storm powered up again, I noticed a ”Bing” icon that surely was not there before.  I have not installed Bing, I have not downloaded it, it just appeared there after powering up the phone. When I opened the mysterious Bing icon it took me to an Agreement site where I could download the Bing app. I downloaded and installed the Bing app.

I have been playing with the Bing app for the last couple of minutes and I am really impressed with it. Mostly because of its perfect UI: beautiful, usable, practical and innovative. And also because of the features. It has Maps with directions and has voice search! You just speak, your BB Storm listens and then searches for that thing you said. The voice recognition works pretty well and is very accurate. So try it for yourself, pull the battery from your Storm2 from Verizon and try to see if Bing magically appears, or, head to Bing.com and select ”Download Interactive Client for Blackberry”
