Skype For The Blackberry Storm For Free! iSkoot

skype-on-stormMany people have been asking how to get Skype on the Blackberry Storm, iSkoot is the solution and I have found the best way to get a free Skypre client for the Blackberry Storm. I will first explain what Skype is, if you already know just jump to the second paragraph. Skype is an interesting service that allows you to make and receive calls for free on your PC, you can also chat and do video calls, now the good news is that you can get Skype on your Storm!

The software that enables the Blackberry Storm to use Skype is called iSkoot, it is free to download but there are still some charges, but they come from Skype not from iSkoot. You can make calls for free over your unlimited data plan, but you will need Skype credits to receive calls to your Blackberry Storm. If you know how to handle it to only make, but not receive calls, you can use Skype on your Blackberry Storm completely free!

The free Skype client for the Blackberry Storm is definitively a very good free app for the Storm, there are thousands of apps for the Storm but clearly, Skype and iSkoot is one of the best apps right now for your Blackberry Storm. Getting this free software to work in your Storm is very easy, just head here:   and follow the instruction to install Skype on your Storm. If you have any problem just leave a comment and we’ll help you! Hint: Get iSkoot you can find the Blackberry Storm under ”Blackberry” rather than your carrier.

Has anyone used this program? I’ve downloaded it but Im wondering a few things like: 1: once you download it and sign on through your strom are all the calls you make through the program free. 2: in the description of the program it says its free on out going calls but your incoming calls are not…is that on all your incoming calls even if your not logged in on your strom? Thanks for any info.

I have a storm under contract in Australia that includes unlimited email and internet, but charges extra for streaming. I really want to get a skype app for my storm as my carrier vodafone does not offer one and i’m wondering how this app would affect my bill. Does anyone know of any other skype apps for the storm that would not require streaming?

iSkoot have the robust ability to route your Skype calls over the voice channel that your Skype calls sound matches the quality of your normal phone calls.

I have downloaded this app and started using it. It is very anoying that the keyboard stays up all the time and the view will not change to a horizontal view.  It would be nice if this was written to take advantage of the Storm i.e. BlackBerry 9530. Anyone know when this app will be upgraded to support the Storm?

I just downloaded iskoot for my blackberry storm 9500 on vodafone. (I chose blackberry either curve or bold 9000 series on the drop down list)
I made the skype test-call and it seems to be working fine.
Once I ended that call, I noticed that my phone was really slow; it actually froze for like couple of mins!
I then sent a chat message to one of my contacts and now I am unable to get back to my contacts menu screen. It seems to be stuck on the chat menu screen, instead of the contacts menu screen.
I tried pressin every button at the bottom of the screen; including the contacts icon which is located below, but still doesnt seem to work!

Any suggestions will be must appreciated!

    Cheers

ok I downloaded the version for bold 9000 to my storm. Once you download you then have to disable compatibility mode and the keyboard goes away and you can view in landscape mode.

I had the same problem, could not see the Blackberry 9500 / Storm phone, decided to go to it via my BB browser, just went to http://www.iskoot.com They recognise the model and allow you to install the correct version of iskoot. I installed it and it works fine.

    Hope this helps.

    I found this very helpful:
    http://www.rimarkable.com/blackberry-storm-usability-tip-disable-compatibility-mode

you can disable compatibility mode by going to options >> advanced options >> highlight the application that you want to disable compatibility mode on >> hit the menu button (the one with logo) >> select disable compatibility mode. Once you disable compatibility mode, restart your application. the blue border and the persistent virtual SureType keyboard should be gone. You may be able to use the application in landscape mode as well.

What is the average charge for a 30 min skype call from a BB storm on Verizon in US? if I sign up, is it same log in from a PC and if so is there a charge to make Skype to Skype calls from PC? If they charge now, is it same if I call a Skype number or a mobile or landline?
