Blackberry Storm Downloads: Google Maps Now GPS Compatible with The Blackberry Storm

blackberry-storm-google-mapsThis are great news for Blackberry Storm owners! Previously if you had Google Maps installed on your Storm the GPS would Not work, but now Google Maps has been updated so they are fully compatible with the Storm and that includes the GPS!  Now Storm users dont have to wait until the inaccurate triangulation method ubicates them on the map, the built-in GPS on the Storm will locate you within 8 meters on the map!

Many people were complaining that Google Maps was not working with the GPS, luckly it will now. Go to www.google.com on your Blackberry (Make sure it loads the google MOBILE page and not desktop) then hit ”more” at the top of the screen and then find ”maps” on the list. Then just click over it and install, if you have any problem just leave a comment and we will try to help you!

tip: Many users say that the keyboard is blocking the visibility on Google Maps, if you have this problem just slide your finger downwards from where the keyboard starts to the end of the screen, this will hide the keyboard.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you have the GPS On by going to.   Settings>Advanced Settings>GPS. Make sure it is ON. Then make sure you edit the application permissions of google maps all to ”Allow”. Go to settings>advanced settings> applications. Then find google maps, highlight it and press BB button, then click on ”Edit Permissions” and sett all to ”Allow”. mAKE SURE TO SAVE.

Hmm, this seemed like exciting news, but my location is still only accurate to within 1900 meters, even after reinstalling google maps today.

    Hi.

I don’t see an “Options” menu item. I downloaded and started Google Maps, but there’s nothing to offer me GPS.

Actually it’s not settings panel.  It is the options tab that you start with and then follow the directions

I’ve followed all the directions about setting right options, etc., both for google maps and GPS (eg “allow” for google maps in applications and “enable” in GPS) but I still don’t see GPS option when I open Google Maps and go to its menu.  And you say to read the update in the post. You mean posts in “Comments?”  I’m lost.

I installed google maps per your instructions. It said it was successfully installed. It seemed to work. I closed the application. Now I can’t find it on my storm.  When I click on the pre-installed google maps icon it looks the same as it did before I installed the new version. Can you advise?

I edited the permissions, etc. Nothing. To be clear to everyone, ignore posts that say that Google Maps has an option tab. IT DOESN’T. These people are just getting confused.

Frankly, I think Google screwed up. This update only gives you A-GPS which is only accurate to 1.9 km. They still have not connected to the Autonomous GPS chip inside the Storm. We will still have to wait….

If you want  GPS working on a Google Map, use the Poynt app. It successfully plots your GPS location onto Google Maps, plus it helps you find stuff near by. And its Free!

A-GPS is Assisted GPS, meaning that the towers help you get your location to then lock the GPS sats in record time. It is not triangulated position as you think, as yes, google maps currently works on the Storm.

Google Maps 3.0.2 runs fine on my storm but it does not access the device GPS. Triangulation location only which is basically useless. Come on Google, how hard can this be?

I’ve downloaded GMaps ver 4.0.2 into my Storm with os 5.0.0.484. one problem I found : the maps view cannot rotate into landscape and the keyboard wouldn’t hide (even when I swap it). Actually it worked fine when I used ver.3.2 .
I really love this application, anyone can help me?
